Day 10: Grafts Secure — Normal Life Resumes
Day 10 is the milestone most patients wait for: grafts are generally considered secure, normal (still-gentle) hair washing resumes, resistance training gets the green light at many clinics, and FUT patients often have sutures or staples removed around now.
What to expect
- Recipient area scab-free or nearly so
- Ongoing shedding — the area may look sparser than week 1, which is normal
- Fading pink tone, though full redness resolution can take weeks (longer in fair skin)
How to care for it
- Resume normal shower pressure gradually if your clinic approves
- Reintroduce exercise per your clinic’s timeline; wipe sweat gently, shower promptly
- Sunscreen or a loose hat once your clinic approves — new skin burns fast
Is this normal?
- Normal The "ugly duckling" thinning look beginning
- Normal Donor dots still visible up close
Contact your clinic promptly if you notice
- Any open, painful, or hot spots this late are worth a clinic photo review
Frequently asked questions
Can hair transplant grafts still be dislodged at day 10?
By days 10–14 grafts are anchored well enough that normal washing, hats, and daily life won’t dislodge them. Direct trauma is the only realistic remaining risk, which is why contact sports stay off the menu until around week 4.
When can I wear a hat normally again?
Loose caps are usually fine from days 5–10; fitted hats and helmets from days 10–14 once grafts are secure. Cleanliness matters — a sweaty hat on healing skin invites folliculitis.
