Day 8: Shedding Accelerates — Don’t Panic

If day 8 has you staring at shed hairs in the shower drain — that’s the process working, not failing. Transplanted hair shafts shed so the follicles can reset into a new growth cycle. Practically everyone goes through it; the follicles stay put and start producing new hair around months 3–4.

Frequently asked questions

How much shedding after a hair transplant is normal?

Most or even all of the transplanted hair shafts can shed between weeks 1 and 8 — this is expected shock loss. The follicles remain implanted and re-enter a growth phase, with new hairs typically emerging from months 3–4 onward.
